TASK 2 C: BREAKING NEWS
NOW......You are going to put yourself in the shoes of a reporter. Here you've got an example done.
There has been a bank robbery in the city centre. Two million dollars were stolen. You are a reporter for a famous television station and you have been sent by your boss to cover the story. You will recount the event in a documentary.
READ THE EXAMPLE:
DIRECT SPEECH
Journalist: First of all, what is your name and what were you doing here at the time of the robbery?
Witness: My name is Jane Clark but, please, do not mention my name in your report. I am a regular and loyal customer here. I came to deposit some cash into my account when two masked women entered the bank. They were carrying what looked like guns.
Journalist: Thank you for the information.
Journalist: Did someone try to stop them?
Witness: No, everything happened so quickly. There was no time to react.
Journalist: Did you have anything else to say?
Witness: Yes, I did. The women drove towards the Museum of Modern Art in a red saloon but I have no idea where they went afterwards.
Journalist: Thank you for the interview, Miss Jane Clark.
Witness: You’re welcome.
INDIRECT SPEECH
A Month Later: Sample Report.
Journalist:
A month ago, I interviewed a woman who did not want us to mention her identity. She told me that she was a regular and loyal customer of the Ratio Bank. She said that she had gone to deposit some money into her account when two masked women had entered the bank. The young woman added that everything had happened so quickly and there had been no time to react. The witness also said that the women had driven towards the Museum of Modern Art in a red saloon but she had no idea where they had gone afterwards.

Now LET´S PUT YOURSELF IN THE SHOES OF A REPORTER ( GROUP WORK)
1. Individually, read the piece of news: Witness protection: I'm the hero but have been left with no identity
2. Then, each member of the group choose one part of the testimony and report it ( reported speech)
3. Then each student upload the reported testimonies to the English Google Classroom.
